Microsoft 365 Updates to Remember

If you’ve worked with Microsoft products, you know they are constantly updated to improve performance. Point in case: Microsoft 365’s Message Center recently announced major updates within the software.

Here are some of the improvements:

Microsoft Viva Learning available in November

“Microsoft is launching Microsoft Viva Learning, a center for learning in Microsoft 365 that promotes a culture of growth and development by bringing learning into the flow of work within the tools and platforms already used during the workday.”

Improvements with Power BI in Microsoft Teams

Users can expect the following improvements by the end of 2021:

  • Power BI will be automatically installed for users in your organization when they use the Power BI service in a web browser and have a Microsoft Teams license
  • Power BI app for Teams will become available to government customers

Optimized behavior of file versions in M365 Records Management

“Any file with multiple versions that is deleted from SharePoint or OneDrive which is preserved to the Preservation Hold Library (due to its applicable retention label, retention policies or eDiscovery holds) will now be retained as a single file containing its full version history, rather than each version being retained as individual files.”

Update to Microsoft 365 and Outlook for Windows connectivity

Microsoft is updating the supported versions of Outlook for Windows that can connect to Microsoft 365 services. After November 1, 2021, only Outlook 2013 Service Pack 1 (with latest fixes) and later will be able to connect to Microsoft 365 services. If you haven’t already, make sure to update!

Extending Secure by Default in Microsoft Defender

Legacy overrides will no longer be honored for email messages that Microsoft believes are malicious. Here is an updated list of overrides that are not honored:

  • Allowed sender lists or allowed domain lists (anti-spam policies)
  • Outlook Safe Senders
  • IP Allow List (connection filtering)
  • High confidence phishing messages for Exchange mail flow rules
